’twas the night before c-day

’twas the night before c-day,
and all was prepared,
for a brand new arrival
needing much love and care.

Two score weeks
they’d been waiting
and working, and learning,
and buying, and building,
and crying, and yearning.

At first came a bump
with a peanut inside
that grew to a melon
all sloshed to one side.

Yet the room that they shared
came scarcer each night.
She jostled for comfort
then turned out the light.

“s’been a glorious experience,
of that there’s no doubt,
but by gosh, am I ready
to get this kid out!”
