Hawaii – Day One

Today is the first of our week in Hawaii. We decided that after almost two years of marriage we should finally take a honeymoon. So here we are. After a short and painless flight we arrived on Oahu at a little after 1pm island time. After collecting our luggage and picking up our rental car we headed straight for the hotel. We’re staying in the Ohana Westhotel in the heart of Waikiki.  The room is basic but very comfortable. We have a king bed, a kitchenette and a great ocean view.

After settling in we took a short walk in Waikiki to find some food. It didn’t take long to locate Jimmy Buffet’s Restaurant and Bar. We just couldn’t turn down a chance to visit Margaritaville. We both enjoyed an early afternoon margarita and a great meal. Meaghan chose a good old hamburger while I went with teriyaki steak. Both were great and well complimented by our drinks.

Having dined and hydrated we decided that a leisurely stroll on the beach was in order. The beautiful thing about Hawaii is that the beach is never far away and the weather is as consistent as can be. We took a nice gentle stroll at the water’s edge, getting our feet wet and running away from the occasional large wave.

Not wanting to get a sunburn on our first day here, we decided to head back to the hotel to take a break. Now we’re planning to enjoy some of the great shops that Waikiki has to offer. The temperature is still in the seventies but the sun has gone down behind the buildings. Time to go enjoy the nightlife.

The complete set of photos from our trip are being uploaded as we take them and are available here:
