I was fourteen years old when I walked into a store called Dixons in downtown Doncaster and announced “I would like a GameBoy please.” I had my £79 in hand (about $120) and was visibly trembling with excitement as the
sweaty youth service representative handed over the silver box with a picture of the GameBoy system in a tron-like setting on the front.
Since that day I have owned various generations of the gaming system, including the GameBoy Color, and GameBoy Advance SP. It was therefore with no small amount of glee that I purchased his and her Nintendo DSi XL systems for Meaghan and I last weekend. We both played the Mario series on the original system in our youth. For the last few weeks we have been looking for a new game to start playing together (since becoming thoroughly burned out on WoW) and the DSi seemed like the perfect platform on which to find our new start.
The DSi XL features a larger screen than the original DS and after playing with one for a couple of days we decided that this was the right system for us. We picked up a copy of New Super Mario Bros and Professor Layton and the Diabolical Box, as well as Pokemon: HeartGold (I’m a huge Pokemon fan!) We’ve had a great week playing together and so far I’m really impressed with the quality of the DS. Everything feels slick and polished. The construction of the system and cohesion of the software are superb. Top notch Nintendo quality. Game on!
